Philippine Retirement Authority

PRA

Established: July 4, 1985

Legal Basis: Executive Order No. 1037

The Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA) is a government owned and controlled corporation created by virtue of Executive Order No. 1037, signed by former President Ferdinand E. Marcos on 04 July 1985. On 31 August 2001, through Executive Order No. 26, the control and supervision of PRA was transferred to the Board of Investments (BOI) – Department of Trade and Industry from the Office of the President. On 12 May 2009, Republic Act No. 9593, otherwise known as Tourism Act of 2009, PRA became an attached agency of the Department of Tourism and placed under the supervision of the Secretary.

1985Executive Order No. 1037 was signed then President Ferdinand E. Marcos. Its first Chairperson is former First Lady Imelda R. Marcos.
1987The Philippine Retirement Authority enrolled its first SRRV holder, Mitsui Ono, while also renaming its original corporate name from Philippine Retirement Park System (PRPS) to Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA).
1992The Philippine Retirement Authority became a self-sustaining government-owned and controlled corporation, acquired its own corporate office at the 29th Floor of Citibank Tower (now BDO Towers), and was awarded a Center for Excellence by the Civil Service Commission.
1998On 31 August 2001 through Executive Order No. 26, the control and supervision of PRA was transferred from the Office of the President to the Board of Investment, Dept. of Trade and Industry.
2001On May 12, 2009, through Tourism Act of 2009, the Philippine Retirement Authority became an attached agency of the Department of Tourism, launched its new logo and “Smile at Life in the Philippines” slogan, held the 1st Retirement Summit with Philippine Retirement Incorporated, established satellite offices in Baguio, Clark-Subic, Cebu, and Davao, while the retirement industry was declared a flagship project of the national government.
2011The Philippine Retirement Authority launched and rebranded the SRRVisa product line through the SMILE Program, established its pilot International Correspondent Office (ICO) in China, introduced the PRA Best RADAR Award, and signed an agreement with PhilHealth.
2016The Philippine Retirement Authority became ISO 9001:2015 certified, deployed new ICT systems, signed an agreement with INTERPOL, and executed a data-sharing agreement with the Bureau of Immigration.

Mandate & Powers

Mandate

PRA is mandated to develop and promote the Philippines as retirement haven as a means of accelerating the social and economic development of the country, strengthening its foreign exchange position at the same time providing further best quality of life to the targeted retirees in a most attractive package.

Visa Administration

The PRA is the sole lead agency authorized to issue and manage the Special Resident Retiree's Visa (SRRV), which grants holders indefinite residency and multiple-entry privileges.

Investment & Deposit Guidelines

It prescribes and manages the required foreign currency deposits or investments needed to maintain SRRV privileges.

Policy Formulation

The PRA creates, implements, and evaluates guidelines to develop the retirement industry, while reviewing and setting the fees, charges, and assessments for enrollees.

Accreditation

It accredits retirement facilities, healthcare institutions, marketers, and partner merchants to ensure retirees receive preferential treatment, discounts, and high-quality services.

Government Interagency Coordination

It collaborates with other government agencies to streamline services and provide retirees with exemptions from Bureau of Immigration alien reporting, Travel Tax, and customs duties on personal effects.

Member Care & Advocacy

It oversees programs for community integration and support to assist retiree-members during their stay in the country.
